The Power of Embracing God's Will

Throughout my life, I have faced numerous challenges, from work pressures to personal struggles. Amidst it all, there was an instance where I found myself overwhelmed by a decision that seemed impossible. I was laid off from my job for over 6 months, and I was torn between following my desires to take care of my family or trusting God, aligning my actions and needs with what I knew was right in the eyes of God.

Gain Strength and Freedom Through Submission to God's Will

Through trials, I reflected on Jesus and the lesson he taught me from the Garden of Gethsemane (Luke 22:39–45). Jesus went to the Mount of Olives and his disciples followed him. Jesus asked them to pray while he withdrew to the Garden of Gethsemane. If you were a fly within the Garden, you would have witnessed Jesus in agony and extreme mental or physical suffering. His sweat was as if it were drops of blood falling to the ground. Being in agony, Jesus prayed more earnestly, saying, “Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me; nevertheless, not my will but thine, be done.” Through a moment of weakness, Jesus was strengthened by an Angel to continue the will of God.

As you see in the verse the act of submission was not easy, but Jesus trusted in God’s sovereignty, believing that His plan far surpassed His own desire. Jesus' unwavering submission exemplifies the path to spiritual enlightenment and fulfillment. By surrendering our own desires and aligning with God's will, we tap into a wellspring of resilience and grace. The sacrifice of Jesus Christ serves as a timeless reminder of the divine grace available to those who humbly yield to God's sovereignty. Through reflection on Jesus' profound struggle, we glean invaluable lessons on obedience, faith, and the redemptive power of surrender. The profound spiritual truths illuminated through Jesus invite us to embrace God's will wholeheartedly, trusting in His guidance and experiencing the liberation that comes from surrender. Just as Jesus found strength in submitting to God's plan, we too can discover unparalleled freedom and empowerment through surrender.

Practical Steps to Following God’s Will

By learning to align our actions with God's will, we experience profound spiritual growth, peace, and fulfillment. Following God's plan leads to a life of purpose and joy, knowing that we are walking in His divine guidance.

1. Commit to Surrender: Make a conscious decision to surrender your will to God's. Trust in His wisdom and sovereignty and wisdom. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding.

2. Seek Guidance Through Prayer: Cultivate a habit of regular prayer to seek God's direction and strength. By committing our ways to Him, we acknowledge His authority and seek His will in all aspects of our lives. Psalm 25-4-5 "Show me your ways, LORD, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long." James 1:5 - "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you."

3. Embrace Spiritual Disciplines: Engage in spiritual disciplines such as prayer, fasting, studying the word of God, and meditation to attune your heart to God's will. These practices deepen our intimacy with Him and align us with His purposes. 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

4. Practice Thanksgiving: Set aside time each day to express gratitude to God through prayer, thanking Him for His blessings, guidance, and presence in your life. Be specific and sincere in your thanksgiving, acknowledging His goodness and faithfulness.

5. Trusting in God’s Timing: Acknowledge the perfection of God’s timing and His sovereign plans. Jeremiah 29:11 shows us that God has a plan, full of hope and a future for us. Even when life is hard, this verse reminds us to wait for His perfect timing.

By following these practical steps, we empower ourselves to resist worldly desires and embrace God’s will, leading to spiritual growth, fulfillment, and a deeper relationship with Him.
